Your baby's brain continues to grow at a pace during this stage. The human baby brain grows and develops, starting in utero but most rapidly during the first 2 years of life. Your baby's  brain is shaped in response to their environment but crucially in response to the love and care that you give as a parent(s) during this time.

You may notice that your baby is using their hands and fingers more to explore their world and that their communication now involves lots of weird and wonderful sounds, actions and facial expressions. This is the time too that babies begin to learn how to control their body and will develop new skills like rolling and creeping.

By this stage your baby will have usually developed a more predictable pattern of sleep and feeding times and a parent will be gradually learning what their baby likes and dislikes. This is a great time to begin gently 'shaping' your baby's sleep to encourage them to sleep through the night. All babies are different so don't fret if your baby isn't sleeping through the night just yet. It's estimated that infants under the age of 6 months sleep on average 1-5 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. This is a time when sleep deprivation can really take hold of worn out parents so its a very good time for restoring balance and making sure that you are taking care of yourself as well as your baby.
